In 2014 we were fortunate to travel to San Francisco for a few days. While we were there, we visited the iconic Palace of Fine Arts. Whooooah!! This was one of our favourite spots in the gorgeous San Francisco! The understated beauty, size and the simplicity of this landmark left you with a sense of relaxed calm. It was as if we were transported to another time, a place where you could escape from the hum-drum of the city!
The Palace of Fine Arts has a very interesting history that relates to the time when the city of San Francisco was recovering from the 1906 earthquake. It has in the meantime been rebuilt and renovated, the last of which was completed in 2009.
“The inspiration for the Palace, with its soaring colonnade, grand rotunda, and carefully constructed pond, was meant to evoke quiet sadness and solemnity. This is most evident as one observes the “weeping ladies” facing into the tops of the columns throughout the park.”
If you want to experience the best in travel, you should definitely make a point to visit the this beautiful oasis when you are in the San Francisco area. You will not be disappointed, and you will leave with a sense of awe and admiration. If we ever find ourselves in San Francisco again, this spot will be a sure stop for us!
