Crescent Falls, Alberta

nordegg_07

Crescent Falls has long been on my list of places I wanted to visit. It wasn’t until recently that I made the effort to find out exactly where Crescent Falls is located!! So close to home – It was a no-brainer… We would visit Crescent Falls in the very near future!!

We took our dutch friends to the mountains for the weekend, and man, was it a good weekend for hikes and waterfalls!!! So beautiful!! Here are a couple photos from our stop at Crescent Falls!!

Sulphur Skyline Hike

Hiking in the beautiful Canadian Rockies is one of my and Hubby’s favourite things!! Hiking the Sulphur Skyline Trail in Jasper is by far our favourite hike ever!! (Follow this link for the first time we hiked the Sulphur Skyline trail.) It is a pretty challenging hike, but the views make it SO worth that exercise!!

So, when my mom visited us last year, naturally we wanted her to see this beautiful hike as well!!! I am not going to lie to you – it is a pretty tough hike! It is about 4 km to the top, and you are basically walking uphill the ENTIRE time!!!

Here is a short video that I put together 3 years ago on the first time that we hiked the Sulphur Skyline Trail…

This gives you a very rough idea about what you can expect, but I promise you, if this hike is not on your list – it should be!! Here is another link to some info on this trail. And of course, some more photos from our hike from last year…

Where to eat in Banff: Grizzly House

This is by no means a review of the Grizzly House – but a mere enticing of photos of delicious food. If you are in need of some relaxing (and serious spoils) after a long day of hiking, sight seeing and exploring the beautiful little town of Banff, make sure that you have your table booked at the Grizzly House in Banff. But beware, this is by NO means a budget eatery. Be sure to save up for this before visiting.

Grizzly House

The fondue dinner is one of their specialities (and the reason we decided that this referral was worth checking out). It is a three course fondue delight, with different options for starters, mains and dessert). For the mains, you can choose between the traditional oil fondue, or the very enjoyable (for the eyes and the whole experience) hot stone. Also worth trying if you are in the North American vicinity (unaware of international availability), is the Velvet Devil Merlot from the Washington State – it is freaken delicious (and cost around $25-30 CAD per bottle).

Grizzly House If you did not follow the link above to immediately find the location closest to you that sells the Velvet Devil, above is a photo of what the bottle looks like! As you can see below, we started off with the four cheese fondue, some roasted garlic and bread!! So rich and sooooo delicious!! (but when it comes to cheese, I tend to go a little bit crazy!!). We followed that with the hot plate – served individually (each gets to choose his/her meat combo) with a variety of accompanying sauces. We ended our meal with a fruit and chocolate fondue!! As you can see, super delicious!!Grizzly House Grizzly House Grizzly House Grizzly House Grizzly House Grizzly House

Oh man, these photos make me want to go back there this instant!! It is such a relaxing atmosphere – and for the adventurous, you can also try some buffalo, elk and caribou. Bookmark this restaurant if you are planning a trip to Banff… And once there, take your time!!

Aurora Borealis {20 December 2015}

Last night we had quite a show from the Aurora Borealis aka. northern lights!! Although we were out there for only about an hour, we saw some pretty dances in the sky!! These lights are mesmerising! Super pretty! It was very overcast, we could see faint trails behind the clouds! It eventually gave way slightly, enough for us to see some beautiful trails!

We have a friend visiting from South Africa, and of course it was on her bucket list to see the Aurora Borealis. Unfortunately that is the one things that we can’t guarantee… Fortunately for her, she witnessed this phenomena last night. Sometimes, things work out in your favour. And this was quite a show, we were as excited as teens at a concert!! 🙂
